Spring into Summer with Harvard Online
Published May 29, 2024
Around Harvard, flowers are blooming, animals are coming out of hibernation, and the days are getting warmer. It’s a natural reaction to want a fresh start this time of year—to clear out the old air in our homes, clean out closets, and envision what we need in the summer months ahead.
If you’re feeling the urge to refresh your life this spring, taking a guided course can be the catalyst for positive change. We’ve rounded up some of our top courses, each designed to help you get a fresh start and clear out your mind ahead of this new season.
Rediscover the true meaning of happiness
What makes you truly happy? Can you enhance your happiness through study and effort? If you’ve been struggling to define what true happiness is for you and how to find it, our Managing Happiness course is here to guide you. Led by Harvard Professor, social scientist, and author Arthur Brooks, this free 6-week self-paced course is a journey of self-discovery, exploring the science of happiness and helping you find your truest self.
Prepare for difficult times
If you’ve been feeling stressed, burned out, anxious, or sad, you’re not alone. These moments can be difficult, but science-backed tools and systems can help you manage these challenges. In our course Building Personal Resilience, led by Harvard Medical School faculty Dr. Luana Marques, you can learn how to use five science-driven skills grounded in applied psychology to build personal resilience on your own.
Optimize your working situation
These days, many of us work in entirely remote or hybrid environments. Perhaps you may also be considering whether one of these arrangements would work well for you. These unique working situations require a different skill set than traditional in-person office environments. Remote work requires a strong system of trust, useful digital tools, and full alignment with your team. Based on the popular book by Harvard Business School Professor Tsedal Neeley, our course Remote Work Revolution for Everyone can help you transition to a remote work environment and set yourself (and others) up for success.
Grow into a leader
Whether you want to manage a team, own a project, or support a change, leadership skills are essential for any working professional. Furthermore, we’re living in a time with major challenges for our families, communities, and societies with a great need for leadership to mobilize people. In our course Exercising Leadership, you’ll learn the basics of becoming a leader, approaching complex organizational systems, and resolving conflict amidst change.
Are you a health care leader looking to grow your industry leadership? Consider our course Innovations in Teamwork for Health Care, led by Harvard Business School Professor and Author Amy Edmondson and Michaela Kerrissey, Assistant Professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Plan your summer reading
For the literary buffs out there, take your summer reading a step further into the Modern Masterpieces of World Literature. In our course, you’ll dive into how great modern writers capture the intricacies of our global world.
If traditional literature isn’t quite your thing, consider adding one of our summer reading recommendations to your TBR list – featuring books written by our very own Harvard Online faculty and staff!
